Silver Lake Resort Fishing Report August 2020

Can You Say Desert Springs Rainbows!!!

No surprise to anyone reading this fishing report, that the fishing on Silver Lake, and for that matter the entire Eastern Sierra, is really difficult right now.  The Department of Fish and Wildlife has not stocked in over 7 weeks and will not be stocking the rest of this season from my understanding.  Don’t worry to much though, as we planted two loads of 1 to 4 pound Rainbows we purchased from Desert Springs in Oregon over the past week and we have loads ordered and ready to be planted in Silver Lake every two weeks from now until mid October.  We are trying our best to try to supplement the loss of DFW not stocking.  Anglers that are showing some patience, mixing up what they are using and where they are using it are being paid off with some of these beautiful Rainbows being brought in from Oregon.  The most consistent bait showing success lately has been Good Old Night Crawlers, Berkley Pinch Crawlers, Berkley Mice Tails and Berkley Power Baits with Garlic in them (Berkley Doesn’t Pay Me To Say This Either).  There really is a lot of fish out in Silver Lake, they are just running deep in the cooler waters and are difficult to get to feed, so work on a longer leader off the bottom of the lake.

With the Labor Day Holiday Weekend coming up, we normally would be excited and gearing up for our Annual Chris Jones Memorial Horseshoe Tournament and BBQ, however, due to county and state regulations we are sad to announce that we will not be doing this fundraiser this year; unfortunately.  Next year things will be bigger and better, as we all look to get things back to how we remember and want them to be.

The one shining light this Labor Day Weekend, besides the normal beauty of the June Lake Loop, is that Ernie’s Tackle and Ski Shop are doing the Monster Trout Contest, that was suppose to be in April, over the Labor Day Weekend!!!  We are excited and proud that the boys at Ernie’s are getting this long standing Contest up and running in today’s crazy world.  For contest rules and regulations reach out to Ernie’s Tackle and Ski Shop at 760-648-7756.

Regardless of how tough the catching side of fishing may be right now, always remember that the views here in the Eastern Sierra never gets old.  Relax, enjoy the beauty and who knows…. maybe you will catch one or two of those beautiful Desert Springs Rainbows.

Happy Fishing and We Will See You at The Lake!!!
