Silver Lake Resort Fishing Report 9/17 – 9/24/2018
Well, it all depends on who you ask on what answer you will get when it comes to how the fishing is on Silver Lake. While we have not had a stock truck from the state come by in the past few weeks and unfortunately it sounds like we won’t see a stock truck from the state again this year, we have made some calls to Desert Springs Hatchery in Oregon to see if we can supplement the states short comings. Thanks to Desert Springs, we here at Silver Lake Resort have purchased two truck loads of bigger 3 to 5 pound Rainbows to be brought into Silver Lake over the next two weeks. One truck came this past Thursday dropping off 400 pounds with the average Rainbow weighing in at 5.3 pounds. We are trying to help the catching side of fishing due to the states short comings on stocking and will be expecting another load of Desert Springs Rainbows to Silver Lake the end of next week. While we haven’t seen very many stringers full of catchables here at Silver Lake, due to the lack of DFW stocking, we have seen a tremendous amount of larger fish being caught, thanks to those Desert Springs loads. While we can’t control what the state does, we can help by supplementing some nice fish into Silver Lake. We have had so many 3 to 6 pound Rainbows brought in from Silver Lake I will be sending out a second report with more pictures to prove how awesome the big fishing is here at Silver Lake. As the cooler weather starts to settle in here in the Eastern Sierras, the big fish should continue to show some active feeding patterns as they come out from the depths of the lake. Anglers have seen some really good results using the always consistent Berkley Power Baits in Salmon Peach, Rainbow Glitter Garlic and Chunky Cheese, as well as in Pinch Crawlers and Mice Tails. Fishing early in the morning and later in the day is still seeing the most consistent results.
If you are having a hard time catching fish, just take a second and remind yourself to look up at the beauty of Fall in the Eastern Sierra. the Aspens are just starting to turn a beautiful yellow here at Silver Lake and will be gold/Orange in the next week or so. If you are interested in Fall Colors make sure you take a good look at Mono County Tourism’s Facebook and home page as they are updating Fall Colors throughout the region on a regular basis.
With three weeks left in the 2018 Season here at Silver Lake Resort, make sure you make it up one more time to enjoy the beautiful Fall Colors and catch yourself a few of those Desert Springs Monsters we are putting into Silver Lake!!!
Happy Fishing and We Will See You at The Lake!!!
