Silver Lake Resort Fishing Report 8/9 – 8/16/15
Fishing on Silver Lake has been moderate at best this past week as we have stayed very hot and the fish have continued to go very deep in the water trying to stay cool. We did receive a load of Desert Springs Oregon Fish this past week and a load of DFW stockers as well but the warmer temperatures have kept them slow and low. The best results have been right at day break and later in the afternoons as the shadows are on the water and help to start to cool the waters. Anglers have continued to see the best results using Power Baits with Garlic in them and worms down at the bottom. If you can get the fish to rise try using a Yellow or Red Humpy in the fly department either with your Fly Rod or your spinning rod using a bubble. Hopefully we start to cool off and the fishing gets back in line. We had some good winds this past week that helped keep it a little cooler and it also pushed the smoke from the Little Walker Lake Fire north away from us rather than at us. If you haven’t heard about the fire it started Friday afternoon right at Little Walker Lake that sits in the hills behind Grant lake and grew very fast due to this wind. It is currently about 10% contained and heading towards Tioga Pass at the moment. They currently have about 300 fire crews with helicopters and airplanes assisting and hopefully will get a good handle on the fire here very soon. Thanks to all the First Responders and Fire Crews that are working so hard to keep our beautiful June Lake Loop and Eastern Sierra pristine and safe from the fire!!!! To keep up to date on the Little Walker Lake Fire go to Mono County Sherriff’s Departments web page. They update it regularly.
Happy Fishing and We Will See You at The Lake!!!
Fish of the Week:
Steve Hollon of Bakersfield had the catch of the week this week when he brought in this beautiful 7 pound 5 ounce Rainbow caught from the shore of Silver Lake using Berkley Mice Tails. Steve said he hooked up with this beauty just as the sun was hitting the water. Nice Job Steve!!!
