Silver Lake Resort Fishing Report 6/9 – 6/23/24

It is a beautiful time of year here at Silver Lake Resort in the Eastern Sierra.  The Lakes are full of water, the sun is shinning, Bob Miller is here and the mosquitoes and fish are biting.  I am not sure it gets any better to be honest!!!  Silver Lake got a nice 600 pound load of Desert Springs Rainbows last week and we have been seeing lots of those and the DFW stockers coming into the scale here at the SLR store.  There are lots of fish to be had but at times the catching can be a little tricky, mainly due to how much water is pouring into the lake from all the backcountry snow, which is keeping the lake colder in temperature and full of good natural bugs and nutrients for the fish to eat that are being pushed in from Upper Rush Creek and Horsetail Falls.  The most important side of catching to keep in mind, is not really what you are fishing with but more importantly the depth that you are at.  Early in the mornings and later in the afternoons, when the air is cooler the fish are feeding up near the surface and as the sun gets on the water start to think about taking things deeper.  All the normal baits, lures and flies/streamers are working well, with the Berkley Products of Mice Tails, Pinch Crawlers and Dough Baits still are working well, as are Thomas Buoyants, The Mook, Streamers like Rainbow Hornberg, Olive Matuka Red Gil or a Green or Black Wooley Bugger.  Dry flies are also working well on flat days, with Elks Hare’s, Mosquitos, Parachute Adams and also some stonefly’s.  Give it all a try!!!

Happy Fishing and We will See You at the Lake!!!

Fish of the Week:

Rick Bravo with a Monster 8 pound 1 oz and 5 pound 5 oz caught from the shore of Silver Lake using Night Crawlers. Nice Catch Rick!!
