Silver Lake Resort Fishing Report 6/26 – 7/8/23
What a Crazy, Fun, Busy, Exciting and Eventful past week plus here at Silver Lake Resort!!!
I can’t remember the last time someone caught a 6 pound Rainbow on Silver Lake and it wasn’t even close to the biggest fish of the week!! We had several fish weighed in this past week between 5 and 6 pounds and we even had a 7 pound 8oz, a 8 pound 3oz and a whopper of a 9 pound 8oz caught this past week from both the shore and boats and using various types of baits and lures. A great week for bigger fish here at Silver Lake to say the least!! Anglers have had to adjust a little from their standard practices and they have had to adjust to the ever changing waters here at Silver Lake. There is still unprecedented amounts of water flowing in and out of Silver Lake from the high country snowmelt and it is making the depth at which you are fishing more important than what you are using. The bottom of the lake water is still really cold from a long winter, the top is frigid from all the snow melt, which means that the ever changing depth for a little warmer waters is ever changing. Good rule of thumb is to start with a 3 foot leader and if you are having success, switch to a 4 foot or 5 foot leader and see what happens. Normally we are looking for cooler waters to fish in this time of year, but this year is different and we are still hunting out the warmer bands in the lake. There is no doubt a lot of good fish out there in the lake, per usual, you may need to adjust and grind it out to find the more productive spots. Rush Creek is flowing extremely heavy, but those that have braved the waters have done well using lures and some top flies on some side and back eddies in the water.
DFW has been stocking pretty regularly so far this year and we have been receiving nice loads of Desert Springs Rainbows from Oregon about every three weeks that we are purchasing to help keep things going. Normal baits are doing well with Rainbow Glitter Garlic, Straight Garlic, Chunky Cheese working in the Power Bait Department and of course Berkley Pinch Crawlers and Mice Tails are working well too.
It was a great 4th of July Week here at Silver Lake with lots of activities throughout the area. We held our Annual Chris Jones Memorial Scholarship BBQ and Horseshoe Tournament on the 4th and as always it was a huge success in raising money for the scholarship that is given out each year to local high school graduates. The horseshoe Tournament was sold out at 32 teams and the BBQ sold out of all Hamburgers and Hotdogs, which means it was a busy fun filled day. Lots of good Raffle prizes were won and the Gift Baskets Donated by our World Famous SLR Crafty Campers, lead this year by the fearless Debbie Stevens, was a great success!! Appreciate everyone that participated, donated and was involved in this great day!!! Looking forward to the same big party, BBQ and Horseshoe Tournament on Saturday of Labor Day Weekend!!
Happy Fishing and We Will See You at the Lake!!
Fish of the Week:
Steve Archer landed this Monster 9 pound 8oz Rainbow fishing from his boat on silver Lake using a Berkley Mouse Tail. Steve has been a very successful catcher of fish on Silver Lake over the years and he is always rewarded with some great catches, but this Monster takes the Cake!!!
Great Fish Steve!!! Well Deserved!!
