HOT! HOT! HOT!

Just like everywhere, it is extremely hot here in the beautiful Eastern Sierra, which unfortunately is not the word we are using for fishing, but it is what has made the catching side of fishing a little more challenging around the region and here at Silver Lake.  There are lots of fish in Silver Lake with over 1,100 pounds of fish were stocked this past week before the crazy busy holiday, with 600 pounds being put in by Desert Springs Trout Farm, courtesy of SCE and the June Lake Loop Trout Stocking program and 500 pounds put in by DFW.  Not unusual to say for this time of the summer, but more important than what you are using, the important thing is the depth of in the water you are doing it at.  Early in the mornings when it is coolest it is wise to fish up towards the surface of the water with some flies like Mosquito, Elks Hare Caddis, Red or Yellow Humpy or even some streamers like Olive Matuka, Rainbow Hornburg or Matukas  and spinners and as the day heats up, start to work deeper in the water chasing the cooler waters and use the good staples like Berkley Products in the Power Baits, Mice Tails and Pinch Crawlers, as well as Night Crawlers.  The heat of the day is always the toughest time to be catching and things should start to improve as the shadows start to hit the waters and the fishies start to rise back towards the surface.  Keep changing things up and keep chasing the cooler waters and you should find some success.

It was a great Crazy 4th of July here at Silver Lake Resort with our Annual Chris Jones Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser Horseshoe Tournament and BBQ which was a blast and fun for all.  This years winners of the Horseshoe Tourney was Dan and Sarah Holloway who came in 1st, followed by Mark and    in 2nd place and Mike and Bill brought home 3rd place.  Thanks to everyone that came out to celebrate the fourth of July and help us to continue to raise monies for the Chris Jones Memorial Scholarship that is now in its 30th year of helping local Mammoth and Lee Vining graduating Seniors with college.  A Great Day – Thank You to Everyone!!

As we hit the middle of summer, the catching side of fishing will continue to be a struggle as it stays hot, but the good news is….  The View of the Beautiful Silver Lake with Carson Peak in the background never is bad!!  Sit back and enjoy the view, slow down and let the good times roll!!

Happy Fishing and We Will See You at the Lake!!
