Silver Lake Resort Fishing Report 6/10 – 6/17/22
In the scheme of today’s “New World” and how difficult it is to get things back to some normalcy, the Fishing at Silver Lake, in the June Lake Loop, has not been all bad this past week. If you were able to withstand the crazy winds we received over the past few days and you came out with a nice fish or two – good by you!! We saw quite a few nice size Rainbows being brought in weighing anywhere from 1 to 5 pounds this past week, thanks to Desert Springs Trout Farm in Oregon that dropped a nice load into Silver Lake about a week and a half ago. We are still not receiving any stockings from the Department of Fish and Wildlife and I wish I could say it will change soon, but I don’t see much coming in from the state in the form of stocking. We will however, along with Mono County Tourism, the June Lake Trophy Trout Program and what Silver Lake Resort will be purchasing and stocking 600 pound load from Desert Spring Trout Farm about every three weeks into Silver Lake. We are scheduled for our next load just before the 4th of July Holiday Weekend.
Anglers this past week continued to see success by using Good Old Worms, Berkley Power Baits like Rainbow Glitter Garlic, Tequila Lime Garlic, Pinch Crawlers and Mice Tails. As the water temperature continues to warm, look to increase your leader length to find the top of the weed line, where good old Walter is hanging out waiting for you to present him with something to eat. Bugs, Bugs, Bugs also came out in full force this past week, either with your fly rod or even a fly and a bubble on your spin rod, look to use Mosquitos, Elks Hare Caddis, Sierra Brite Dot or something like a yellow Sally. Streamers should continue to show good results too, try pulling a Rainbow Hornberg, Red Gill Matuka or a Green Wooly Bugger. Water levels on Silver Lake continue to go up as we are getting the last of the snowmelt from the high country and SCE gives us some more water as they continue to work on the dams in the backcountry.
Big Shout Out to everyone who helped us with our Annual Rush Creek Trash Clean Up last Saturday!!! A huge success, as always, with lots of trash picked up throughout our area. Continue to give us a hand during your visit and if you see some trash on the ground, pick it up and throw it in a trash can. Help Keep the June Lake Loop a pristine and beautiful place for all to enjoy!!
Kids are out of school and summer is officially here, so come on up and get some fishing in here at Silver Lake. Bring your catching patience, as it will be difficult at times catching some fish. But always look up, enjoy the beauty of the Sierra Nevada and remember you are not at work and just slow down and enjoy yourself, your family or whoever you may be lucky enough to be in the June Lake Loop with!!
Happy Fishing and We Will See You at the Lake!!
Fish of the Week:
Andy and Nick Kaufman all the way from Hawaii landed this nice stringer using Berkley Power Bait and Salmon Eggs while out on a boat on Silver Lake. Nice work guys!!!
