Silver Lake Resort Fishing Report 6/10 – 6/17/18

Summer is here at Silver Lake, as the weather is warming up and so is the catching.  Despite a few afternoons of typical High Sierra winds, the weather this past week was gorgeous and we are seeing a lot of young smiling faces as most kids are now out for the summer.  The weather is suppose to continue to stay warm this next week and before we know it the 4th o July will be here.  The catching side of fishing has continued to improve as our water temperature slowly gets warmer, despite a ton of water dumping into Silver from all the back country snow.  Both Silver Lake and Grant Lake are super full, which means that Rush Creek is flowing strong as well.  Look for these water levels to continue to stay strong as the falls from Agnew and Gem Lakes is flowing at full capacity.  We will hope that it stays strong throughout the summer.  As far as what has been working most consistent here at Silver Lake, anglers have continued to see some great results using all Berkley Products, from Mice Tails, to Pinch Crawlers, to all Power Baits with Garlic in it.  The best results on Power Baits is either from a boat or the shore, but the key is finding the correct depth that those fish are hanging out in.  As the water temperature slowly continues to warm, those fish will be moving all over the place looking for a water temperature they like and will be feeding.  If you aren’t having much luck, think about taking your baits deeper and higher until you find that depth the fish are at.  We have also started to see things pick up on the bug side of things with our Fly Fishermen or spinning rods with a fly and bubble.  Look at using some dry flies like a Yellow Sallie, a Mayfly or a Caddis like an Elk Hare and see if you can’t get those fish to rise to the surface for you.  Streamers, like a Black or Olive Matuka and Wooly Bugger are also seeing some good results.  If something isn’t working, look at changing both what you are using and how you are using it.  The fish are smart and so you must hunt them with patience, skill and always a little luck.

A quick thank you to all our staff here at Silver Lake Resort, our guests and volunteers who helped us with several different events this past crazy busy week.  First we had Disabled Sports and the Wounded Warrior Program we helped while they were in the area for some Rock Climbing, then we had our kids Fly Fishing Program that was a huge success for three days this past week and we finished off the busy week with our 12th Annual Silver Lake Rush Creek Clean Up.  Thanks to everyone who volunteered to help us with all these great events.  We could not do any of them without the help of our wonderful guests, who we call FAMILY!!!!  Thank you all very much!!!

Happy Fishing and We Will See You at The Lake!!
