Silver Lake Resort Fish Report 6/12 – 6/22/20
And Just Like That…. Summer is Here!!!
Well it depends on who you talk to about how the fishing is here at Silver Lake. If you are looking for stringers full of trout in an hour of fishing…. it isn’t happening. If you grind it out and mix things up and hook into a nice Rainbow you are doing well. We have seen lots of really nice, large fish being brought in but not a lot of quantity. What that tells me is that we are seeing all the bigger Desert Springs fish from Oregon being caught that Mono County and Silver Lake Resort is stocking but not a lot of smaller fish the state stocks, even though we have seen the DFW stocking truck here three weeks in a row. The lake is in a changing pattern, as the water begins to work itself from the cold water on the top, which is typical in the Spring, to the warmer waters (58 degrees) on top as the heat of the summer begins to beat down on us. Start to thing about taking your baits and lures deeper in the water where those big Rainbows are starting to hang out. Berkley products like Pinch Crawlers, Rainbow Glitter Garlic, Chunky Cheese Garlic and Mice Tails all have done well this week using a 3 to 4 foot leader off the bottom, as has Night Crawlers. Streamers like Olive Matuka or Green Wooly Buggers have also seen some great results early in the morning and later in the day when the shadows are on the water. Stay committed out there on the waters and keep mixing up your baits and leader length and you should see some good results.
Everything here at Silver Lake Resort is up and running now with boat rentals, kayak rentals, cabins and RV park getting really busy as everyone is looking to get out to the beautiful June Lake Loop. Silver Lake Resort cafe is also open for both take out and limited seating from 7am to 2pm Daily.
Keep wearing your masks, washing your hands and keep social distancing and come catch some fish and enjoy the beauty of the Eastern Sierra
Happy Fishing and We Will See You at the Lake!!
Fish of the Week:
Pam Blyleven of Anaheim hooked into this beautiful 8 pound 8 oz Rainbow fishing from a boat on Silver Lake using green Pumpkin Power Baits. Great looking Rainbow from Pam!!!! we got a little spoiled last week with the Monster Rainbow brought in weighing 19 pounds 3 ounces but Pam’s big one this week is something just as special.
