The 2019 Silver Lake Fly Fishing Academy

Another incredible year at the Silver Lake Fly Fishing Academy was enjoyed by everyone last week.  This year we had 21 young Anglers go through the Academy where they were taught, showed and experience from the Eastern Sierras’ Best Guides how to fly fish, tie tippet and leader, wade safely in creeks and streams, become educated on rules and regulations and most importantly taught how to cast and land some awesome trout.  Thanks to the Perrin Family, and Jack Perrin in particular, for all the years of your generous donation that allows us to have everything that is needed to provide these young anglers everything they will need to become successful fly fishermen and women.  Also thanks to our local Guides, Pat Jaeger, Eric “Otis” Hein, Beryl Rae, Mike V., Mike Petersen and Nate Wray for all their expert hands on knowledge and passion for the art of Fly Fishing.  An incredibly  talented and passionate group!!!  Also, thanks to our over 30 volunteers that help with everything from cooking pancakes to standing in the background to provide any and everything needed throughout the three days of the Academy.  Could not do this great Academy without the help of each and everyone of you.  Thank You!!!

After 7 years of doing the Silver Lake Fly Fishing Academy for kids ages 10 to 16, with the help of so many different people, we have put together one of the best youth Fly Fishing Academies anywhere.  We will continue to strive to provide the necessary tools. skills and knowledge needed to start the love and passion that Fly Fishing gives back to the angler.  The Academy is offered once a year in the third week of June and always fills up at least 6 to 7 months prior to June.  If you are interested in participating in future Academies please e-mail silverlakefoundation@hotmail.com and an application can be send to your child in November for the coming summer.

The Silver Lake Fly Fishing Academy strives to educate our youth on the proper skills needed to become an accomplished fly fisherman. Each participant will be taught the unique form of a fly fisherman with emphasis on equipment, casting, fly tying, lake and stream safety and etiquette. Individuals will have hands experience with instruction from highly proficient and professional fly fishermen and women from the Eastern Sierra.

Fly fishing is an ideal vehicle to promote a positive future for our natural resources. The last decade has seen a decrease in the interest of sport fishing, particularly among young people. It is the desire of The Silver Lake Fly Fishing Academy to rejuvenate a keen interest in fishing along with promoting conservation and respect for all of our natural resources in the Eastern Sierra region, in particular Silver Lake, Rush Creek and the June Lake Loop.

Thank to EVERYONE for making the 2019 Silver Lake Fly Fishing Academy a huge success!!

Happy Fishing and Get Out There and Enjoy!!
