Silver Lake Resort Fishing Report 8/1 – 8/9/2015

The fishing on Silver Lake slowed down earlier this week due to the full moon and lots of Anglers taking their crack at catching fish. However, the tides turned as we received a load of DFW catchable Rainbows on Tuesday and a healthy load of 200 pounds of 1 pound Rainbows and 200 pounds of 3 to 5 pound Rainbows from Desert Springs on Thursday afternoon.  Rush Creek also received a nice load of DFW Rainbows on Wednesday.  So, needless to say there are plenty of fish in the lake and the creek but catching them is up to you and what you use and how you present it.  Anglers have seen the best results this week using the same types of baits as always; Rainbow Glitter Garlic, Garlic, Yellow Glitter Garlic and Hatchery Pellet in the Berkley Dough Baits, as well as Mice Tails in All Colors.  The fish are still deep in the water despite some cooler over night temperatures so get out on the water early and late as the fish will be up top feeding during those times.  Anglers have also seen some really good results using a good old fashioned Night Crawler right as day break is hitting the water.  Take it to the bottom with a good 30″ leader and float it off the bottom.  If you enjoy trolling, give a Thomas Buoyant in Gold/Red a try in either the Speedy Shiner or spoon shape, as well as a Tasmanian Devil or Rapala with some reds in the pattern.  If you are a fly fisherman try using a Sierra Brite Dot, an Elks Hare or Yellow or Red Humpy a try and add a dropper with a caddis on it to help bring up those big guys from below the surface.  As summer is slipping away from us the fish should start to rise a little in the depth of the lake as we are already starting to get some cooler nights, which will only help with the action on the lake and creek.  Schools will be starting for the year everywhere over the next few weeks, but you still have time to come on up to the beautiful High Sierra and the June Lake Loop for some great fishing, hiking and sight seeing.  I don’t want to say it yet but if you look down along Grant Lake, some of the Aspens are already slowly starting to change colors into Fall.  I think it will be a spotty Fall Color Season this year due to the fact of our early Spring.  As things start to change over the next few weeks I will make sure to keep you Fall Color Peepers informed on how things are looking.  We can begin to see the start in the trees so be ready for a spectacular Fall Color season and fishing season as well.

Happy Fishing and We Will See You at The Lake!!!

Fish of the Week:

Raychel Delaney of Seal Beach wrestled with this brute winning the battle as this Rainbow weighed in at 6 pounds 9 ounces caught on Silver Lake using a Night Crawler.  Raychel benefited from a nice load of Desert Springs Oregon Rainbows that were planted in Silver Lake only a few hours before her big catch.  Nice Job Raychel!!!
