Opening Weekend 2017

The 2017 Opening of Fishing Season was SPECTACULAR!!!  The weather was beautiful, a little crisp but beautiful for the end of April in the Eastern Sierra.  The crowds were spotty at best and so was the fishing.  We saw many nice 2 to 3 pounders brought in throughout the weekend but nothing crazy big, which means that those big ones we put into Silver Lake last week are still in the water and ready to be caught!!!!  We did see some good looking fish and stringers throughout the June Lake Loop and Rush Creek.  Most anglers seemed to see some good action using a good old fashioned Night Crawler both  in the lakes and in particular the streams.  Rush Creek and Silver Lake produced a ton of great looking Browns throughout the weekend with many of those Browns weighing in at the 2 to 3 pound mark.  Bob Settani hauled in the biggest Brown out of Rush Creek weighing 3 pounds 2 ounces and Jason Willis landed a beautiful 3 pound 3 ounce Brown out of Silver Lake on a Thomas Buoyant.  Mac Willis also landed a nice Rainbow and was the Monster Trout Winner for kids with his 3 pound 5 ounce Rainbow.  But the big winner of the weekend was Brian Kliss or now known as “The 2017 Monster Trout Winner for Silver Lake” with his catch of 3 pound 11 ounce Rainbow.  Nice job Brian!!  The water temperature on Silver Lake is still a little cold (46 to 49 Degrees) which may be one of the reasons fishing was a little slower but we are happy to have all that cold water dumping into the lakes from the back country snow as it is filling all the regions lakes very nicely.  Look for this colder water to continue to fill our lakes for the next few weeks  as we haven’t even started to hit peak runoff after the great winter we had for snowpack.

All the lakes in the June Lake Loop are wide open and looking primed for an incredible summer so don’t wait to plan your summer vacation as it will be a very busy throughout the area.  If you are coming up this spring just be patient as that water is cold but there are plenty of fish in the lake!!!

We hope that everyone had a great 2017 Opener and we look forward to seeing everyone at Silver Lake Resort throughout the summer!!

Happy Fishing and We Will See You at The Lake!!!

Fish of the Week:

The Kliss and Ferrin Clan had a great weekend with many really nice fish caught over the weekend but Brian Kliss topped everyone at Silver Lake this past Opener when he hauled in his 3 pound 11 ounce Rainbow caught on Silver Lake using a Rapala.
Nice Job Brian The 2017 Monster Trout winner for Silver Lake!
